Citizen’s Academy 2024
The Academy begins February 5th and runs through April 22nd, 2024. Classes are held every Monday night 6:00pm to 8:30pm. You do not need to be a resident of Selah, but residents of Selah will take priority over non-residents. Class size is limited to 25-30 participants per class.
Participants of the academy will attend classes on Criminal Investigations, Traffic Enforcement, DUI Investigations, ATF, Gang Enforcement, K-9 Program, Forensics, FBI, Courts, DEA, Use of Force, Selah Fire Department Procedures, Taser and Firearms trainings.
Several Valley agencies participated in the academy. There are speakers from the Selah Police Department, Juvenile Courts, DEA, Yakima Police Gang Unit, Yakima K-9, Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, ATF, and Washington State Patrol, just to name a few.
The academy has had overwhelming success with rave reviews from all the participants in the past. One of the most memorable classes was the firearms training class. Every person present (as long as they were 18) was able to hold and shoot the same weapons used by the Selah Police Department, as well as some that are no longer in use. The participants were impressed by the knowledge of our firearms instructors and thankful for the opportunity to shoot with us.
