DURING THESE DIFFICULT TIMES PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT OUR OFFICE IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. The Building Department is responsible for issuing permits for: New Building, Remodel, Tenant Improvement, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fire Alarms, Water Connection (for connection to the City of Selah domestic water), Wastewater (Sewer) Connection, Signs, Street Break, Roofing, Right of Way Use, and other miscellaneous Permits.

Plan Review
Plan Review is responsible for the implementation of the International Codes as adopted by the State of Washington and amended by the City of Selah. These codes include the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Mechanical Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, International Property Maintenance Code, International Existing Building Code, Washington State Energy Code, Washington State Ventilation and Indoor Air Quality Code, Washington State Historic Building Code, Washington State Manufactured Homes Installation Requirements or Mobile Homes Installation Requirements and the Washington State Factory Built Housing and Commercial Structures Installation Requirements or Modular Installation Requirements. Plan Review is also responsible for the review of all construction plans submitted for permit. These plans are reviewed for compliance with the adopted International Code and City regulations. Our staff is certified by ICC and other organizations to review plans using the International Building Code, International Mechanical Code and International Plumbing Code. Plan reviews are completed using checklists to ensure the completeness of the review.

Building Inspection Hours:

Monday – Friday
8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Latest appointment time is either 3 or 3:30 p.m. depending on type of inspection.
(Closed weekends and holidays)

Please allow a minimum of 24 hours notice when requesting an inspections. We can not guarantee next day appointments, we will give you the next soonest available. 

  • All Permits and approved plans are required to be on-site or in the general contractor’s site offices at the time of the inspection.
  • The general contractor or permit holder is responsible for insuring that all areas are inspected prior to concealment.
  • Areas of inspections need to be ready when the inspection is requested and the contact person must be on-site – If you schedule an inspection and you are not ready or you are not on site then the inspection is automatically FAILED and counts against you as an inspection, depending on how many inspections you have already received on the project you could be required to pay an additional inspection fee of $77.53 to reschedule.
