Through Selah we offer self guided wildlife tours to the feeding stations nearby and the local birds of prey rehabilitation center.
The Oak Creek Wildlife Area is a winter safe land for elk to come down from the snow covered hills to eat and rest. The area is large enough to hold up to 3,000 elk at one time. Each day that the elk feed, the volunteers at the station count the bulls, cows, and young elk.
Visitors to the area can stand at the gate and observe the elk and take pictures and videos. Another option that anyone can partake in is the tour (which Selah Reserves spots for) which allows visitors to get on a truck and be driven into the middle of the field with the elk. While in the truck, a volunteer from station tells the facts about how the elk came to live here, how big the herd is and answers any questions visitors may have.
*Donations are appreciated. Donations are used to buy the hay that feeds the elk through the winter.
Also at Oak Creek is the big horn sheep feeding station. The sheep feed in the morning and can only be observed from outside of the fenced area. The sheep are less predictable than the elk so getting to the station as close to feeding time as possible is the best way to ensure seeing the big horn sheep.
The Raptor House Rehabilitation Center is a local birds of prey rehabilitation center that works at reintroducing injured birds back into the wild. At the Raptor House visitor can see owls, eagles, hawks, and smaller birds. The workers at the center do educational programs and flight training demonstrations for groups.
