Description:

The City of Selah is seeking a qualified attorney to provide timely legal advice, counsel, consultation, and opinions to the Mayor, City Administrator, City Council, various City departments, Boards and Commissions, and all levels of the City government, on a wide variety of legal issues. These legal issues may include, but are not limited to: land use matters (Comprehensive Plan amendments, zoning changes, site plan reviews, subdivisions, short subdivisions, planned developments, conditional use permits, State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) application and compliance, similar use determinations, concurrency and transportation related permits, development agreements, wetland, stormwater, and other environmental permitting issues); laws against discrimination; processing of and construction of public works projects; condemnation; purchasing and procurement; leasing; purchase and sale of property; public disclosure issues; and tort law. Additionally, they appear before courts and administrative agencies to represent the interests of the City during matters of litigation. They assist in collective bargaining negotiation and provide representation on employment matters including disciplinary actions and grievances. They must also prepare and/or review ordinances and resolutions, contracts and other legal documents.

Qualifications:

The Municipal Attorney will be selected by the Mayor and City Administrator (and then confirmed by the City Council) based upon qualifications for the duties of the office which include, but are not limited to, all the following or a justifiable equivalent:

  1. Attorney in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association;
  2. 5 years’ municipal legal experience;
  3. Must be able to attend weekly staff meetings and bi-monthly City Council Meetings;

Compensation:

Compensation to be negotiated based on experience. Please include requested compensation in the proposal.
