State law requires that cities with a Lodging Tax Fund establish an advisory committee. The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) committee, under RCW Chapter 67.28, reviews grant applications for funding and provides recommendations to the Selah City Council regarding the use of lodging tax collected within the City of Selah. The comments shall include an analysis of the extent to which the proposal will accommodate activities for tourists or increase tourism, and the extent to which the proposal will affect the long-term stability of the fund created under RCW 67.28.1815.
The Lodging Tax Fund is created through a state sales tax on overnight stays at hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, or campgrounds.
The program is designed to fund the marketing, operation and promotion of activities, events, or projects that promote Selah as a business or leisure destination, such as:
- Developing strategies to expand business and leisure or travel promotion
- Funding of marketing of, or the operation of special projects, events, or conferences designed to attract businesses/leisure travelers
