Message from the Chief of Police

During this pandemic, I want to assure all residents of the City of Selah
that the Police Department is still out here providing safety and security to
the citizens of Selah.   

We have however, after careful discussion and deliberation, decided that it
would be in the best interest of our employees and citizens to suspend our
fingerprinting service and to put our Citizen’s Academy on hold until a time
where it can again be safely done.

Recreation Department Update

Due to the Selah School district closures and at the direction of the Washington State Governor, spring soccer is postponed through April 24th. Our current plan is to have practices resume the week of April 27th.  Tiny Tots and league games will start on May 9th.  Further, because of the delay in soccer, flag football will also be affected and will start at a later date than originally planned.  We will continue to post updates as necessary and strive to … Read More

Message from the Mayor

During this
pandemic, I want to assure all residents of the City of Selah that water,
sewer, and street services will continue uninterrupted.

Our water
supply is plentiful and safe. We have an automated system of wells, pumps, and
reservoirs that will continue to provide plentiful and clean water to your
homes.

Our sewage
treatment plant is running at approximately sixty percent capacity.

Street crews
will continue to provide maintenance and repairs to the streets.

Civic Center Closure

Update on
Civic Center is in effect, closed for the next two weeks in order to comply
with the recommendation of the President of the United States.

The Food Bank
is operational and will be keeping the same hours as in the past, but serving
out of the south side of the Civic Center on Mondays and Fridays from 9 to
11am.

Meals On
Wheels will continue to prepare meals for takeout. Customers have been notified
about when they can pick up their food.

Message from the Mayor

This morning I signed an emergency declaration in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic.  This was done in order to allow for the City of Selah to align with concurrent State and County declarations for the same.  This declaration will allow the City to be eligible for potential State and Federal funding should it become available.  It also expands the municipality’s legal authority to respond more efficiently to emergency situations.

Notice concerning odor throughout community

The less than pleasant smell currently permeating the air around Selah is emanating from the Treetop wastewater lagoons, not the City’s treatment facilities.  The Selah Public Works Director and City Administrator met with the Treetop Chief Chemical Engineer, their lead man at the treatment facilities, on Friday to discuss the matter.  They are struggling to increase the levels of good bacteria in the lagoons in order to properly break down the solids that are the cause of the foul smell.  … Read More
