2022 Youth Basketball Canceled

A message from the City of Selah Parks and Recreation Director:

Thank you a thousand times for trusting us to create recreation for your children and for enrolling them in our program this winter. I am sorry to be the deliverer of unfortunate news, but the Parks and Recreation department has been directed by city administration to cease and desist all indoor youth sports at this time. This decision comes after much consideration and takes into account the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the valley, nearby schools returning to remote learning in order to mitigate risk, and entire athletic programs being put on pause. Our role is to provide a safe and fun environment for our children to participate in athletics and, after much deliberation, the administration has realized that we just cannot guarantee that at this time. Cancelling the remainder of our basketball season is the only feasible option for the sake of community health.

We are sorry for the inconvenience and the disappointment, and sorry that we couldn’t make this work. You will receive a refund check for your price of registration minus the $20 jersey fee (as those have been ordered and largely distributed). If you do not yet have your jersey, please check in with your coach. If your coach does not yet have your jersey, it’s here at the Civic Center for you to pick up any week day between 8:00am-5:00pm. Those are yours to keep since you have purchased them.

We will initiate the refund process today, but please be patient. We will be hand-writing refund requests for each player and then we send those to the clerk/treasurer up at City Hall. They will have to approve each request and then mail a check to you. Once they do this, it takes 7-10 days for the check to reach you. Please get in touch with Parks and Rec if you need to update your mailing address.

Thank you for your understanding. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. We hope you’ll join us for outdoor athletics in the spring and that you stay safe, warm, and well this winter!
