The City of Selah has partnered with the Yakima Training Center for the past 6 years to coordinate the Selah Base Race (www.selahbaserace.com). The Selah Base Race was created 6 years ago and last year we featured over 400 runners from the state of Washington, including 160+ Japanese soldiers. This year, we are expecting upwards of 500 runners plus participants. The purpose of the Selah Base Race is to provide a yearly donation to The Soldiers Project. The Soldiers Project provides free mental health counseling to post-9/11 veterans. Last year, we were fortunate enough to donate $2,000 to The Soldiers Project which is the equivalent of two years of free mental health counseling. We also invite and honor the 12 Gold Star Families from the Yakima Valley (family members of those that were killed in action). This is an enormous opportunity for the Yakima Valley to throw their arms around our active duty, reserve, guard and veteran members of the community to show our love and support for them. It is also a showcase of the strong relationship we enjoy with the Yakima Training Center as we work hand in hand with them to complete this event every year. We will feature a beer garden with help from Kings Beverage, Yakima Craft Brewery and Nana Kate’s. The children’s activities will be provided by All About Fun. Live entertainment is sponsored by Solarity Credit Union. Cash prizes for the top male and female runners in the half marathon and 5K divisions are provided by Bill Harris Used Cars and King’s Row, respectively. If you feel urge to run and win cash, sign up at www.selahbaserace.com. If you do not want to run, please come out to Carlon Park on September 16th, 2017 from 9am-2pm.
