Chief Gause embodies the spirit of community-focused policing, rooted in a deep, connection with the City of Selah. Born and raised in the region, his understanding of its people, challenges, and strengths forms the foundation of his philosophy: that effective public safety is built on trust, partnership, and proactive engagement.
Education + Foundation
• Local Graduate: East Valley High School.
• Higher Education: Earned a Bachelor's degree from Central Washington University, building the academic framework for a career in public service and leadership.
A Career of Service and Progressive Leadership
Chief Gause began his law enforcement career at the Yakima County Jail, gaining crucial experience in custody operations and inmate management. He then served the community of Toppenish, further developing his community interaction skills.
For the past 12 years, his dedication has been to the City of Selah, where he has risen through the ranks with a proven record of excellence in every assignment:
• School Resource Officer: Fostering positive relationships between youth and law enforcement, ensuring school safety.
• SWAT Officer: Serving on the tactical team, demonstrating commitment, discipline, and courage in high-risk situations.
• Training Coordinator: Ensuring department personnel received the highest standard of professional training and were prepared for the complexities of modern policing.
• Upon promotion to Sergeant, he provided front-line supervision, mentoring officers, and leading patrol teams with a focus on operational excellence and community service.
• His advancement to Lieutenant marked a shift to administrative leadership, where he managed critical departmental functions. In this role, his duties expanded to include Internal Affairs, where he was responsible for ensuring the highest standards of professional conduct and accountability within the department. This experience underscored his commitment to transparency, integrity, and maintaining the public's trust.

Appointed Chief of Police in 2026, Chief Gause is committed to leading the Selah Police Department with integrity, transparency, and innovation. His priorities include:
• Strengthening community partnerships through open dialogue and collaborative programs.
• Supporting the professional development and well-being of every department member.
• Embracing proactive policing strategies that address both immediate safety concerns and underlying community needs.
