Summary of Position:

Reporting directly to the Chief of Police, the Police Lieutenant plans, organizes, coordinates, and manages Operational, Administrative, and Support Services of the police department as assigned.  The Police Lieutenant is a Middle Manager position in the Selah Police Department, and shall automatically assume control of the administration and operation of the police department in the Chief’s absence.

High School diploma or GED, college degree preferred.
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Criminal Justice, Sociology, Public Administration, or a related field.

Minimum Class Requirements:
Two (2) years’ experience in municipal utility billing or administrative work.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience, on a year for year basis, will be considered.

April 26, 2024Top candidates notified of process advancement.
April 29-May 3, 2024Oral Board Interview.
May 9, 2024Civil Service – score approvals and Chief Interview scheduling.
May 13-16, 2024Chief’s Interviews.
May 20, 2024Conditional job offer made contingent on a successful background investigation, physical examination, and work ability assessment.
May 21-June 7, 2024Background investigation conducted. Includes medical and drug screening, psychological, and polygraph exams.
June 10, 2024Final Job offer signed (dependent on all testing results confirmed).
June 17 OR
July 1, 2024
Anticipated Position hire date & 1st day on the job.
