Burn Ban upgraded to Stage 2

⦁ A Stage 2 Burn Ban has been declared by the YRCAA Air Pollution Control Officer for both the Upper and Lower Yakima County areas effective Friday January 13, 2017 at 4:00pm. Conditions will be reevaluated on Tuesday, January 17th at 9:30am. This burn ban has been called due to deteriorating air quality conditions. An Air stagnation Advisory will be in effect until 5pm on Monday January 16th due to a strong ridge of high pressure that will persist over the area through Monday, January 16th. There will also be a strengthening temperature inversion which will trap pollutants near the surface with poor ventilation and dispersion.
⦁ Ventilation category will be poor.
⦁ Dispersion category will be poor.
⦁ A strong surface inversion will persist through at least Tuesday Jan.17th

Reminder:
During a Stage 2 Burn Ban:
1. All Outdoor Burning, including Agricultural burning, is prohibited;
2. The use of any fireplace, wood stove or fireplace insert is prohibited unless it is the only adequate means of heating a home;
3. All violations of the burn ban are subject to civil penalty.
