The Building Department is responsible for issuing permits for the following, New Buildings, Remodels, Tenant Improvements, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fire Alarms, Water Connections, Wastewater Connections, Signs, Street Breaks, Roofing, Right-of-Way Use, and other miscellaneous permits.

All permitting in Selah is done online using the SmartGov software. The City of Selah does offer paper alternatives, however the processing time for paper submissions is considerably longer than electronic submissions.
To apply online you will first need to create an account if you do not already have one. Once your account has been verified then you may login to SmartGov.

Beginning May 1, 2023, all plans will be reviewed digitally, whether they are submitted via digitally or in paper form. As a result, submitting plans in paper form may increase the anticipated processing or review time as staff will need to scan the plans. The applicant shall be responsible for printing a copy of the approved digital plans to have at the job site.
You may pay online after we have received, logged in your application or permit, and the permit is approved.

Note: Unless otherwise exempt, separate plumbing, electrical and mechanical permits will be required for the above-exempt items. Exemption from the permit requirements of this code shall not be deemed to grant authorization for any work to be done in any manner in violation of the provisions of this code or any other laws or ordinances of this jurisdiction.
You will be required to STOP work and fees will be doubled when a property owner or duly authorized agent has failed to obtain requisite permit approval prior to commencing development or use.
Washington State Law requires that before commencing any excavation of 12 inches or more, the excavator shall provide notice of the scheduled commencement of excavation to all owners of underground facilities through a one-number locator service. Failure to do so and which results in damaged utility can be costly to the excavator. Therefore, the one-call number for the Upper Yakima Valley Utilities Locate Center is 800-553-4344 or 811. This is a free call and no cost is required for the locate, and a 48 hour notice is required.
